Biofeedback is a group of techniques that use various sensors to detect muscular activity and present them in a way so that the patient becomes aware of whether she is producing the desired effect.  The simplest example is a pulse monitor that patients can watch while attempting to lower their pulse rate.

In treating incontinence many techniques are used.  To help strengthen pelvic floor muscles Kegel exercises are often done.  Biofeedback techniques can help measure the pressures achieved.  Similarly mild electrical stimulation of the appropriate muscle can both help to strengthen the pelvic floor, as well as teach the appropriate muscle group to use.

For urgency incontinence bladder pressure sensors can help teach patients to relax their bladders in response to bladder spasms.

Many other biofeedback techniques may be used in the treatment of incontinence.
