Jack D. Francis, M.D., F.A.C.S.'s special interests have been in the areas of genitourinary cancer treatment and kidney stone therapy. although he is skilled in all phases of general urology.

He was born in 1943 in Louisiana on a military base where his father was stationed. He spent most of his early life growing up in the Baltimore Washington Area and attended medical school at George Washington University graduating in 1968. He served an internship at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio from 1968 to 1969. He then served two years in the US Public Health Service assigned to alternately the US Air Force and the US Coast Guard medical divisions. After that he completed his urologic specialty training at the Cleveland Clinic from 1971 to 1975. Since that time he has been in private practice.

He received board certification in urology in 1977 and was elected to the American College of Surgeons in 1980. Over the years he has held teaching appointments at George Washington University, Children's Hospital, National Medical Center, Georgetown University, and currently is an instructor in anatomy at the Uniform Services University of the Health Sciences. Intermittently teaching residents and medical students in the office setting has also occupied some of his teaching time.

Several publications over the years in the fields of transplantation, renal stone management, and specialized cancer procedures have been submitted. Over the last ten years he has been involved in clinical research trials. He is currently a member of the American Urologic Association and the Mid-Atlantic section of the AUA as well as the American Medical Association and the state and county medical societies. Other society memberships include the Washington Urologic Society and the Washington Area Transplant Society. Over the year he has served on numerous committees at both the state and hospital level including the Physician-Patient Relations Committee and the State Medical Society, several hospital committees including the Medical Executive Committee, and from 1995 to 1997 he served as President of the Medical Staff of Doctors Community Hospital in Lanham, Maryland . He currently serves on the Patient Care Committee of Prince George's Hospital Center and as Chairman of the Division of Urology, on  the Credentials Committee, and Surgical Quality Improvement Committee at Doctors Community Hospital. He is  President of UrOKare which is a regional association of urologists and is also on the governing board of MAUI, a regional urological surgery center. He is President of Mid-Atlantic Mobile Lithotripsy providing patients with an effective and efficient outpatient treatment of their kidney stones.

Interests outside of medicine have included  golf, and theater. One of his main concerns about the transformation of medicine today is the intrusion upon the physician-patient relationship and its confidentiality which hopefully will have some restoration in the near future.
